UOP School Of Pharmacy To Hold Medicare Health Fair

Seniors have until December 7 to enroll in Medicare Part D for their prescription medicine.

Choosing a plan can be confusing but a group of pharmacists and pharmacy students can help recipients save thousands of dollars.

Medicare Part D has some 30 different plans and choosing the wrong plan can be an expensive mistake. 

University of the Pacific’s School of Pharmacy has almost 400 pharmacists and pharmacy students sitting down with seniors to see what plan is best for them. 

Pharmacy Professor Rajul Patel says eight out of ten people will save money by coming to an upcoming Medicare Health Fair. 

“Just about $1,030 per beneficiary per year. You’re looking at about $85 per month and when most of these individuals are seniors who have fixed income and have limited resources, that’s a significant amount,” Patel said.  

Patel says some plans for 2018 have changed so people should check out their present coverage. 

The free Medicare Health Fair is coming to nine different cities in Northern California including Ripon, Stockton, Lodi, and Carmichael. 

The next Health Fair is Saturday at O’Connor Woods Senior Living in Stockton from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. People are asked to bring their Medicare Card and all their medications.
