An individual trespassed at the Golden 1 Center early Tuesday morning and led private security officers on a chase inside the arena — “behaving erratically, running through the building” according to Sacramento police.

When security officers detained and handcuffed the individual, they “became unresponsive” and were sent to a local hospital with a “medical emergency.”

The incident began at around 3:30 a.m., when the department says officers responded to a call regarding trespassing. Officers arrived and helped assist security guards, “who had already detained and handcuffed the suspect,” according to a department statement. Police say the individual “appeared to be under the influence of an unknown substance.”

Officers performed CPR when the individual was unresponsive; the suspect is currently receiving care at a local hospital, according to police.

Sacramento PD, which did not return several calls and emails from CapRadio on Tuesday, declined to further discuss the incident except to say they are investigating.

According to police scanner traffic on Broadcastify, the trespassing and chase occurred inside the Golden 1 Center and culminated “near the visitors locker room.” A crime scene investigations unit was called to the arena just after 4 a.m.

The Kings, who did not return multiple calls or emails to discuss the incident, eventually released a statement on Wednesday evening.

“We want to thank the security personnel, Sacramento Police Department and Sacramento Fire Department for their prompt response and action,” the statement read. “As there is an ongoing Sacramento Police Department investigation, we will have no further comment at this time.”

The trespassing occurred hours after the Kings’ summer league “California Classic” game versus the Golden State Warriors.

On Tuesday afternoon, people gathered in the Golden 1 Center’s northwest plaza to watch the U.S. women’s soccer team play England in the World Cup. The arena also welcomed guests for a Jr. Kings summer camp on Tuesday afternoon.

The Kings summer league team is scheduled to play a game Tuesday evening.
