In 1940 Spanish composer Joaquín Rodrigo wrote music that instantly became so famous and beloved that other artists recorded their own versions of it (or at least the famous Adagio movement) in other genres of music: there are multiple jazz versions including by Miles Davis, Carlos Santana recorded a rock version and there’s even a lively ska version from the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, and many more. And it was all inspired by the gardens at a 16th century castle in Spain. The original Concierto de Aranjuez by Joaquín Rodrigo is today’s Midday Masterpiece at 2:00 pm.
