After 16 years of live shows Marilyn’s On K will close its doors.
General Manager Brian Rodriquez told Capital Public Radio the business has been sold and the new owners have no plans to keep the funky music hall going.
He said he’s watched as the area near the music venue has changed as construction of the new Sacramento Kings arena moves ahead.
“What this business turns into isn’t going to be a single mom and pop owned joint. It’s going to be part of a corporate structure.”
Marilyn’s gained a reputation for being a comfortable spot to enjoy a show for $5 or $6 any night of the week. Patrons enjoyed a varied line-up of acts from night to night; punk, metal, indie, burlesque, pretty much anything you could want.
Rodriquez said he’s going to miss a lot of things about the bar.
“The vibe, the attitude, the regulars, the shows we put on every night,” Rodriquez listed the things he was going to miss most. “I think it’s a huge mistake to buy this venue and change what it is.”
He said the club will continue operating through November 1, the last night for Marilyn's on K.
Rodriquez is planning on a jam-packed bill of Sacramento’s favorite bands playing a free farewell show that night.
