After 30 Years Of Rock'n' Kepi Ghoulie Goes Country

  •  Melody Stone
Friday, December 12, 2014

It’s not too far of a stretch for veteran punk rocker, Kepi Ghoulie, formerly with the Groovie Ghoulies, to do an acoustic/Americana set here and there – and now there’s an album to prove it, complete with a Johnny Cash cover tune.

“This is the 30th anniversary of the Groovie Ghoulies,” said Ghoulie in a phone interview.  “I started it in 1984 when I was a kid and I never stopped."

When asked how he maintained his momentum over the past 30 years, Ghoulie says it’s all enthusiasm.

“Anyone who can tour and play music should be thankful. So I’m very thankful that I can tour and see the world. That alone should be enough to excite anybody,” said Ghoulie.

Ghoulie just wrapped up a U.S. tour with the band Mean Jeans. They played a sold out house in New York where CJ Ramone came on stage and played a Ramone’s song with them.

In September Canadian guitar company Eastwood released the limited edition Airline Jetsons Jr. – Ghoulie Green guitar, with single pickup and knob and the kepi skull in the corner.

“It’s my dream guitar,” said Ghoulie. Eastwood made 36 of these guitars, and they all sold.

“The fact that they sold out makes me happy. People like it,” said Ghoulie. “It’s good to know that some people like what I like.”
