Have you ever dreamed of running away from your normal life? Have you ever thought about doing so in a kayak? That’s exactly what Jim Payne decided to do in 1996 when he paddled down the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. A political scientist by profession, Payne has now completed 13 expeditions by kayak and he’s written three books about his experiences and what he’s learned, including “One Inch Above the Water: Running Away on America’s Rivers.” He’s speaking Friday before the Renaissance Society at Sacramento State and he joins us in studio today.
