The Sacramento airwaves will soon lose three veteran television reporters.
The corporate parent of local news affiliate ABC10 made an offer to "older employees" that some of them just could not refuse. George Warren, Dave Marquis and Tim Daly will be retiring this year.
Insight host Beth Ruyak spoke with the three of them about their decision to leave the news business after years of reporting.
Of the three reporters retiring from ABC10, George Warren has been with the station the longest. The Emmy Award-winning reporter started at News10 in 1981, and his work took him around the world. It has been 35 years.
"I'm going to miss it but I've had a wonderful ride and I think I should leave while it's still enjoyable," Warren says.
Dave Marquis is an award-winning reporter who has been with ABC10 since 1993.
He's covered a variety of stories, including live and breaking news, but his speciaty is military issues. Marquis has spent 38 years in the news business.
"It's been quite something and, like George, I couldn't jump soon enough," Marquis says. "No regrets, but it's a wonderful opportunity."
Insight listeners might be most familiar with Tim Daly.
The news reporter and fill-in anchor based in ABC10's San Joaquin Valley newsroom, Daly has joined us on Insight many times during our News Network segment to keep us updated on events and issues in Stockton and Modesto.
Daly spent 25 years at Channel 10.
"It was a little surprising at first, but after a while, the advantages sunk in and it just made sense," Daly says.
