CapRadio's food and sustainability reporter Julia Mitric continues the New Laws Series by talking about a new law that requires home lenders to talk with family members when a borrower dies.
The bill, titled the Homeownver Survivor Bill of Rights, gives protection to those who many not have their name on a loan, but would still be next in line to pay off the loan.
This is in effort to reduce foreclosure risk for family members.
Mitric shares more details on Insight about how the law works and she shares the personal story of a woman who suffered a 20-month ordeal to get her name on her house lease following the death of her husband.
