Two Sacramento-based artists with different aesthetics but similar processes have come together for a new exhibit.

“Nouns” runs through Sept. 31 in the gallery space at Outlet Coworking in Sacramento. A reception featuring the artists – Emily Swinsick and Erik Castellanos - is scheduled this Saturday.

The new body of work in their show comes from a shared interest in how layers of meaning can be ascribed to the simple construction of a painting. Even though both artists work independently from one another, they have begun a collaboration that involves surrendering pieces to the other.

Swinsick and Castellanos join us in studio to talk about their process. We’ll also hear from Sarah Marie Hawkins, the co-founder of Menagerie Sacramento, which is producing the exhibit.
