In this edition of Sound Advice, CapRadio’s Jazz Music Director Gary Vercelli shares four new releases.

First up, from Jimmy Cobb’s album "Remembering U," it’s Michael Jackson’s tune, "Man In The Mirror." Cobb was the drummer on Miles Davis’ iconic album 'Kind of Blue,' recorded in 1959. Cobb is the only living musician from that date and, at age 90, he now leads an international trio with pianist Tadataka Unno from Japan and bassist Paolo Benedettini from Italy.

Next is Mark Winkler’s tune "Triskaidekaphobia," from his album "I’m With You." Bobby Troup wrote several classics, including Route 66 and Lemon Twist. Winkler brings one of Troup’s lesser known gems alive with drummer Dave Tull, as they navigate Troup’s witty lyrics with great bravado.

Third is Sara Gazarek’s "Easy Love." It comes off her album "Thirsty Ghost."  Don Heckman wrote in the L.A. Times, “Sara Gazarek may well turn out to be the next important jazz singer.” "Easy Love" is a tune she wrote with Larry Goldings. It features pianist Stu Mindeman and Goldings on organ.

And, finally, Steve Khan’s "Naan Issue" from his new album "Patchwork." Guitarist Khan reimagines a jazz classic from Ornette Coleman, Bobby Hutcherson and Joe Henderson, in Latin tempos. Khan performs with veteran drummer Dennis Chambers and percussionist Marc Quinones.
