June Swoon is the solo project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Juli Lydell. She grew up in Sacramento, performing in northern California music groups like The Dreaded Diamond, Paper Pistols, and A Lot Like Birds. After stints living in Austin, San Diego and Roanoke, Virginia, Lydell bought a guitar and started writing her debut solo LP “This Town Could Be Big Enough For The Both Of Us.”

“I was really, deeply bored,” Lydell says about that period of time. “I had a lot of time to play music, more than I had when I was working at a research lab. I think of it now as a gift because if I had stayed in California, I would not have had that much time to really think about what I wanted to do and to have that much space to be creative. When you’re alone with yourself to that degree, there’s a lot of things that you can have the opportunity to confront.”

Lydell arranged, produced and recorded most of the album in a rented room in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Echo Park. She used the solo project as an opportunity to learn and relearn the art and craft of recording and production. The record blends influences from the places she lived: Sacramento experimental math rock, country-western from Austin, and pop-punk from San Diego.

June Swoon plans to tour in support of “This Town Could Be Big Enough For The Both Of Us” in spring 2020. You can find a list of upcoming shows on the June Swoon events page.
