Each week of President Donald Trump's three years in office has brought new ways his administration has flouted long established norms of governing. And, over the last three years, Democrats have tried to find impeachable offences in these acts. 

They believed they did in his withholding of State Department-approved funds for Ukraine. And this, in fact, led to the president’s impeachment in the Democratically controlled U.S. House of Representatives. Now, his case goes to trial in the U.S. Senate. We examine some possible roadmaps for what to expect as the trial gets underway.
