COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, can look very similar to the flu.

Both cause similar symptoms, spread the same way, and have a high chance of leading to pneumonia. However, Covid-19 is far more dangerous in almost every way.

Discussions over the differences in the potentially deadly viruses come as some counties and cities begin to ease public restrictions and contemplate an early start to the school year.

Today we take a look at the distinguishing factors between the flu and COVID-19, and the possibility of an earlier academic year.

Guests

  • Chief of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, Dr. Dean Blumberg, discusses the differences between the flu and COVID-19.
  • California Department of Education Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, on the possibility of an early start to the school year.
