  • Runners Help Boost Profits In Slow Month

    December 2, 2013

Thousands of out-of-town runners will be converging in Sacramento later this week for the annual California International Marathon, or CIM. That means a boost in profits for some businesses.

The historic route has stayed the same since 1983 when the race was founded. It traces a path made by gold miners during the California Gold Rush in the 1940s.

The CIM's 26-mile, 385-yard distance is certified and sanctioned by USATF (#CA07004RS), and therefore is a Boston Marathon qualifier and an Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier.

Some quick facts about the marathon from runcim.org:
  • The California International Marathon (CIM) was founded in 1983 by the Sacramento Running Association (SRA) and brought a world-class running event to the Sacramento area.
  • The same course developed then, and used today, provides runners with a very fast, point-to-point, net-downhill marathon with a spectacular finish in front of the California State Capitol.
  • The CIM is certified and sanctioned by USATF, and therefore is aBoston Marathon qualifier and an Olympic Marathon Trials qualifier.
  • The Sacramento Running Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
