Typhoon Haiyan Relief and Resources

The storm struck on Nov. 8 and some remote islands have yet to be reached. It's been difficult to get help to some survivors and to account for the dead. As of Tuesday, the official death toll stood at nearly 4,000.

In the shattered city of Tacloban, officials say most of the aid that has arrived hasn't yet gotten to the people who need it. There aren't yet enough trucks, there isn't enough gas and there aren't enough rescue personnel to distribute aid.

Leaders of Sacramento area Filipino groups will be meeting Thursday to organize help for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.

As governments and aid groups rush help to the scene, they're confronting epic devastation. The top U.S. commander there has flown over the areas where Typhoon Haiyan hit. It looks "like a bomb went off," Marine Brig. Gen. Paul Kennedy said.

California is home to one of the largest Filipino immigrant communities in the United States. It's also the center of a large fundraising and outreach effort for victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
