California State Fair

Event organizers say the scorching past couple summers has kept people away, even though there were 673,000 attendees at last year’s 17-day event.

The California State Fair isn't until July, but some of the judging has already taken place. Dozens of judges were in West Sacramento this past weekend to sample 1,580 beers that were entered this year.

Turnstiles clicked early and often at the just-completed California State Fair, as officials say total attendance was nearly 788,000, with a single-day draw on July 18 the largest in 10 years.

The California State Fair begins Friday at Cal Expo in Sacramento. The theme this year is "The Best" of California. Highlights include a beer and wine showcase, 11 days of thoroughbred racing and a national drone racing championship.
